Dunninald Castle and Gardens

Accommodation

Originally built to support the lime kiln and harbour, it later served as a salmon fishers’ bothy. It is now a comfortable holiday home that stands above a shingle beach and overlooks the old lime kilns.  Access is by a pathway with thirty nine steps which leads down from the road.

All accommodation is on the ground floor.

The open-plan kitchen, dining and living area is equipped with a dishwasher, oven, microwave, fridge-freezer, Wi-Fi, Sky TV and a cosy wood-burning stove.
A complimentary supply of logs is provided.

The bedroom features a comfortable king-size bed. A single step leads up to the bathroom, which has a shower and WC. Fresh bed linen, towels and complimentary toiletries are all provided.

Outside, the Bothy has a small, enclosed garden to the front of the cottage with outdoor seating, providing the perfect spot to enjoy a piece of toast or a glass of wine.  From the cottage, there is direct access to the pebble beach below. Above the cottage, there is a clifftop path, ideal for coastal walks.  The sea margin is rich in wildlife; terns, dolphins, eider duck . If you’re lucky, you may even spot dolphins offshore.

The town of Montrose is just 4 miles away, offering shops, restaurants, cafés and supermarkets. Wonderful coastal walks begin right on your doorstep, with abundant wildlife and stunning scenery to enjoy.

Guests are also welcome to explore the beautiful gardens at Dunninald Castle and, by prior arrangement, make use of the tennis court.

Guest access
The Bothy is approximately 50 metres from the drop-off point and around 150 metres from the car park. Access is via a footpath with 39 steps leading down to the cottage.

Guests should be aware that luggage, shopping and other belongings will need to be carried to and from the property. The walk rewards you with a wonderfully secluded setting and unforgettable sea views, but the accommodation may not be suitable for guests with limited mobility or anyone who finds stairs challenging.

Other things to note
The Boddin Bothy is 4 miles from the coastal town of Montrose. Dundee and Aberdeen approximately 1 hour. Edinburgh 2 hours. Glasgow 2 1/2 hours.

Dunninald offers a small number of residential properties to let, mostly two-bedroom cottages. Set within a working estate on the Angus coast, these are genuinely special places to live — and tenants tend to stay, which speaks for itself.
